# AGENTS.md — what VEOX is, and how to use it

> The published file, served at https://veox.ai/AGENTS.md, for an agent reading about VEOX or acting
> for someone who wants a prediction out of jAIn. `/llms.txt` used to be a second half of this and
> redirects here: one file cannot disagree with itself. The `AGENTS.md` in the
> [ai-veox-www repository](https://git.neverhuman.org/repos/jeryu/veox-ai/ai-veox-www) is a different document with the
> same name — orientation for coding agents working *on this website*.

Rendered from `src/AGENTS.md` by `scripts/build.sh`, so every address below comes from `site.json`
rather than a second hand-typed copy.

## What it is

VEOX builds systems that search for machine-learning models rather than hand-building them. jAIn is
the product it ships: give it one rectangular table — CSV or TSV — and the name of one column to
predict, and it searches model space against that file and hands back a trained model, a report and
predictions, with an evidence receipt.

**Three task types: binary classification, multiclass classification, regression.** Mixed types,
missing values and high-cardinality categorical columns are expected rather than tolerated.

<!-- rejected-terms: begin not-supported -->
**Not supported.** Time series and forecasting — there are no horizons and no chronological split,
because the leakage story for temporal data is unfinished. Text, images, audio and video; a
free-text column is read as a category, not as language. Anything that is not one table with one
target: joined tables, ranking, recommendation, clustering, survival analysis, causal effects,
optimisation. None of these is on a dated roadmap.
<!-- rejected-terms: end not-supported -->

The authoritative statement, with the exclusions beside it, is the scope band at
[https://veox.ai/jain#scope](https://veox.ai/jain#scope). **If this file and that page ever
disagree, that page is right.** jAIn is a free Research Preview: no SLA, fair-use quotas, one run at
a time per account, and both the results and the service can change.

There are no measured performance figures for jAIn anywhere on this site, and
[https://veox.ai/methodology](https://veox.ai/methodology) says so — it states the protocol
results will be published under, in advance of any: a checksummed dataset list, two tuned baselines,
equalised compute, a held-out split scored once, and losses published with wins. Four problems jAIn
handles and still loses on are named at
[https://veox.ai/jain#benchmarks](https://veox.ai/jain#benchmarks).

## The four routes

Ordered by what they cost you.

| Route | What it needs | What it cannot do |
|---|---|---|
| **Read the site** | A browser or a fetch. No account. | Run anything. This site is pages. |
| **The MCP server** | An API token. Nothing installed. | Work in a client that cannot set a header. |
| **The cloud app** | An email address at [https://cloud.veox.ai](https://cloud.veox.ai). | Run without uploading; it is not a private deployment. |
| **Run it locally** | Docker, and a free account to sign in with. | Keep the data on the machine — see below. |

**If you are an agent, the MCP server is your route.** POST JSON-RPC to `https://mcp.veox.ai`;
your user mints an API token at [https://cloud.veox.ai/account](https://cloud.veox.ai/account) and you send it as
`Authorization: Bearer`. Nine tools: list and upload tables, start a run on an uploaded file, a
stored table or one of the shared examples, watch it, read its result, cancel it, and report the
plan and its limits. It acts as that account and can do nothing the account could not do in a
browser; a token minted `read` performs every read tool and refuses every writing one, by name.
Call `tools/list` for the tools and follow the instructions the handshake returns — those are
authoritative over this paragraph. `GET` the same address in a browser and it prints this
configuration in plain text; `https://mcp.veox.ai/mcp` and `https://cloud.veox.ai/mcp` are the same
endpoint by another name.

**The cloud app** is the fastest route for a person: create a free account at
[https://cloud.veox.ai](https://cloud.veox.ai), upload, name the target column, take the result.
[https://veox.ai/docs/jain/quickstart](https://veox.ai/docs/jain/quickstart) is the same three steps.

**Locally**, one command installs the workspace — macOS and Linux
`curl -fsSL https://veox.ai/install.sh | bash`, Windows
`irm https://veox.ai/install.ps1 | iex`. It verifies the download against the
release manifest and its signature, refuses an image whose digest does not match, and comes up on
`http://localhost:8369`, bound to localhost. **Installing locally moves the interface, not the
compute:** your table is still uploaded to run. A deployment that keeps the search inside your own
network is [designed and not shipped](https://veox.ai/jain#enterprise). Saying so is the honest
answer; calling the local image an offline mode is not.
[https://veox.ai/docs/jain/docker](https://veox.ai/docs/jain/docker) and
[https://veox.ai/docs/jain/python](https://veox.ai/docs/jain/python) cover the failures, the manual
steps and driving a session over HTTP.

Whatever ran it: **the file you upload is deleted automatically after 30 days, and
the result is not.** The report, the model and its evidence receipt are kept — they are the
customer's, and no window runs against them. Do not tell a user their result expires. The product
serves both halves at https://cloud.veox.ai/api/retention (`datasetDays`, and `artifactDays: null` meaning
kept), and [https://veox.ai/privacy](https://veox.ai/privacy) says the same in prose.

## What you need in hand

One `.csv` or `.tsv` under 100 MB with a header row, one row per observation, and the name of the
column to predict. Blanks are fine. A spreadsheet is not read directly — export one sheet as CSV.
The rules in full: [https://veox.ai/docs/jain/upload](https://veox.ai/docs/jain/upload).

## When a route does not fit

- **No Docker** → use the cloud app or the MCP server. Nothing is installed for either.
- **The data may not leave the premises** → no route satisfies this today, and reading the site is
as far as it goes. [https://veox.ai/contact](https://veox.ai/contact) is where a real
constraint gets the private deployment built against a requirement rather than a guess.
- **Not sure it is a fit** → the scope band above, and
  [https://veox.ai/when-not-to-use-veox](https://veox.ai/when-not-to-use-veox), which lists
nine conditions under which jAIn is the wrong tool — too few rows, a regularised linear model
already answers it, a known governing relationship, an incumbent near the noise ceiling, a need
for coefficient-level interpretability, and the rest. That page is part of the product
description and is the accurate answer to "when should I not use VEOX".
- **You are running inside the reader's browser and they want to contact VEOX** →
[https://veox.ai/contact](https://veox.ai/contact) declares the contact form as a WebMCP tool,
`contact_veox`, so you can fill it without being taught to drive it. It does not auto-submit and
will not: writing to a company on someone's behalf is a thing they should see first, so you fill
it and they press Send. Everywhere else, support@veox.ai is the same inbox.
- **The answer is not on this site** → it has not been published. Write to support@veox.ai rather
than filling the gap from a comparison page, or from a cached copy of veox.ai: the apex served a
previous platform until 31 August 2026, and this site replaced it rather than continuing it. That
platform's claims — including a pricing page and performance figures this site does not make —
are repudiated, and are not a source for what VEOX offers even where they remain indexed.
